The Challenge
I recently encountered a design problem and decided to take a whack at it.
Goal: The client wanted their free resource page to be punchy and provide an "aha moment."
I now had a clear objective: to create a burst of serotonin in the brain of any user submitting their email for the downloadable resource.
Given this goal, I quickly noticed that Design A got the point across, but it was quite dry without that “aha moment.”
This is Design B, the finished product. Can you spot the design changes I made for clarity and that burst of serotonin a user should feel when they submit their email?
The Answer
So, here they are. You're on the right track if you answered:
Visual confirmation (green check mark)
Centered language ("You signed up!")
A headline for further clarity and personality (“…and here is that master list I promised.”)
An active download button with an icon ("Download my PDF")
These are four ways I quickly revamped a free resource page that you can use in your next project. This information will also help you recognize this sign-up pattern and explain why you feel like you've hit the lottery when you receive a free resource.
If this information helped you, stick around. November is coming to a close, so I will resume my monthly publishing schedule with more in-depth articles that critically analyze UX, design, inclusive design, and ponder cultural trends that drive design.
